Adventurous Activities - Day 1
Powerboating, Wakeboarding, Water Skiing, Jet Skiing and Abseiling
(and just sitting on a pontoon getting chucked in the channel for some leaders)
The weather again played havoc with our programme, this time for the better, some would argue. An absolute lack of wind, not even a fart was forcast therefore providing a problem for our planned BloKarting. On offer instead was sitting on a pontoon in the middle of nowhere in St Aubin's Bay, we did get powerboat rides, jet ski rides, and attempts at water skiing and wakeboarding though...
We even discovered an amazing talent when Ben decided on his very first attempt at water skiing in his life he'd not only stand up but go 2 and a half times round the pontoon for the next 5 minutes in a jaw dropping display of water skiing skills. I was disapointed he didn't attempt the triple somersualt pike backwards though... Still there's always his second attempt.
The instructor was rather surprised too, "in his many years of teaching water skiing" comment.
Abseiling was no change, but a none the less pleasant surprise. Despite the leaders harping on about abseiling on real rocks on NoirMont (real rocks a rarity on the 62nd programme) we discovered we were actually abseiling down a lump of concrete, an old German concrete observation tower to be precise. Better than real rocks i think...
...cue some excellent photos.

Jersey Zoo - The Durrell Collection
Our furthest trip from 'base' resulted in a last minute rush to get there on time. We were shown around by two lovely volunteers from Jersey Zoo ("a zoo like no other") who managed to get animals to perform and appear on cue, as if by magic... trying to recreate that in the afternoon failed dismally as all the animals bar the fruit bats seemed to have disappeared. When lunch was done we left Dave alone and dozing in the afternoon sun, he awoke to find everyone gone, playing it cool he pretended he had it all planned...
We decided we would experience the hands on snake talk, but somehow managed to wait in the wrong room, having persuaded several members of the public they were right too. Anyway, it's amaing what 30 people can do when walking into the talk just after it had finished, they almost did it all again, just for us. Not much choice really though...
The day ended with a wait for the minibus next to the rather amusing meerkats.
Is it me or does this look like S Club Scout

Waiting for our speedboat to take us to the pontoon
The pontoon above and to the right, I think it's also the speedboats we used

Gorilla feeding time bore an uncanny resemblance to 62nd feeding time...
We discovered that you got a free key ring if you filled in the questionnaire
Don't fall, those meerkats look deadly!
Vast improvement...
Mike was 'very satisfied' and 'thrilled with the variety and setting'... Couldn't have put it better myself!
Grand Prix day per chance..?
